SUMMARY:Meeting & Speaker: Christopher Regan
DESCRIPTION:Join us at our General Meeting  on May 9th to hear Christopher Regan\, Assistant General Manager at the Laguna Beach County Water District\, speak about the history of water usage in Laguna Beach as the Water District celebrates its 100 year anniversary. \nChristopher Regan has led an impressive 32-year career as a leader and innovator working in the water industry. For the past 19 years\, he has served as the Assistant General Manager at the Laguna Beach County Water District\, overseeing public affairs\, marketing\, public relations\, water use efficiency efforts\, water education and information technology. \nChristopher will guide his audience on a historical journey from 1925 to the present\, illustrating how the development of water infrastructure transformed a quiet beach village into the vibrant town we know today. He will discuss the era of homesteading along the untamed coast and the pursuit of water by the town’s founders. In 1929\, the construction of the “Jewel of Downtown\,” the current Water District Building\, marked significant progress toward regional water security. This building was more than just an office; it symbolized advancement and played a crucial role in establishing Laguna’s permanent water system.  \nCome join members of the garden club to hear Christopher weave the story of how this town developed through the eyes of the water district. His talk will delve into the transformative impact of water infrastructure on Laguna Beach’s growth and prosperity\, highlighting key milestones and the visionary efforts of past and present leaders. \nJoin us from 9:30-10:00 a.m. for social time and refreshments\, the meeting begins promptly at 10:00 a.m. Meetings are held at Laguna Presbyterian Church in Tankersley Hall located at 415 Forest Avenue\, Laguna Beach\, Ca. SUMMARY:Meeting & Speaker: Danielle Hahn
DESCRIPTION:Join us at our General Meeting on September 12th to hear award-winning rosarian\, Danielle Hahn\, speak on the history of Rose Story Farm. Danielle Hahn and her husband Bill started Rose Story Farm in 1998 on their fifteen-acre farm in the Carpinteria Valley in Central California. Rose Story Farm began in 1998\, when they decided to try growing 1000 rose bushes on a half-acre of their lemon and avocado farm. The couple imagined an old-fashioned rose farm\, with the radiant hues of European and pre-1950 American varieties in bloom across their farm. They named the farm Rose Story Farm because roses are central to some of the family’s most enchanting experiences of their family-owned business. \nDanielle Hahn was born in Santa Barbara and attended local schools until she entered Stanford University. She graduated with honors three years later\, with a BA in psychology and a minor in Italian. Returning to Santa Barbara\, she opened a series of retail establishments while at the same time being the founder and managing partner of an innovative marketing firm that designed and launched events and premiere parties for the entertainment industry. Danielle was honored with the Great Rosarian of the World award in 2014. Rose Story Farm and Danielle have been featured in Santa Barbara Magazine\, Wine Country Living\, Sunset Magazine\, Oprah Magazine\, Martha Stewart Living\, Veranda\, and The Wall Street Journal just to name a few. Television coverage of Rose Story Farm has been presented on California Heartland\, A PBS special\, The Today Show and Martha Stewart’s Living online series American Made. Non-members are invited to attend for free on their first visit. \nWe have an exciting Raffle event planned to welcome you back to our first general meeting of the year!  Tickets for the raffle will be available during social hour\, so come prepared with cash\, check or credit card for your chance to bring home one or more of these fabulous prizes. A big thank you to all who donated items to this raffle. \nNo parking in the Church parking. Plenty of street parking available. \nQuestions? SUMMARY:Meeting & Speaker: Greg Salmeri and Laurie Resnick
DESCRIPTION:Join us at our General Meeting on October 10th to hear Greg Salmeri and his partner Laurie Resnick speak on decorating for the holidays with plants. Greg and Laurie have spent decades transforming indoor environments using plants\, furnishings and decorative flourishes. The pair began their 32-year partnership as interior plantscapers\, an element of their business they still maintain\, along with the Associated Group\, which produces large-scale holiday decorations. \nThey are the owners of Rolling Greens\, which is comprised of 2 acres of landscaping\, garden and a home design emporium in the Arts District in Los Angeles\, in addition to 2 additional stores in Studio City and Beverly Grove. Greg and Laurie spent three years planning and constructing the 15\,000 square foot showroom that contains various smaller spaces ranging from a prep kitchen to a gallery\, and the other adapted into a greenhouse. This magnificent store is the flagship of Rolling Greens. This is where they developed the concept of a full-service gardening store that then developed into an event space as well. \nGreg loves to collect eclectic items from around the world and then find perfect homes for each piece. From Opium beds\, French wrought iron chairs to fountains to everything in between. He loves French modern and loves to create a super eclectic space in his own spectacular home garden. Greg states that his love of the garden came from his mother\, who was an avid gardener. Greg is an incredible friend of the Laguna Beach Garden Club and he opened his magnificent Emerald Bay Garden to the club for the 2019 tour. That began the legacy of tours being sold out\, thanks to his incredible generosity. This meeting will surely be a packed house to see these speakers show us how to decorate like they do for their celebrity clients! SUMMARY:Meeting & Speaker: Hannah Muller
DESCRIPTION:Join us at our General Meeting on November 14th to hear Hannah Muller speak on Designing with Dried Flowers. \nHannah Muller is a second generation flower farmer and florist in Northern California. She harnesses the beauty of blooms to create everlasting works of art while leaning into a legacy flourishing with sustainability. She was born and raised on Full Belly Farm\, which is located in the beautiful Capay Valley in Northern California. \nFull Belly Farm Grows over 350 acres of certified organic fruits\, vegetables\, animals and flowers. Fifteen of those acres are devoted to cut flowers\, which they sell primarily through their farmers markets\, to wholesale buyers\, and to local stores and restaurants. Hannah now co-owns the farm with her family. She creates floral arrangements that mimic the surrounding landscape and uses the fresh fruits\, vegetables and flowers grown on Full Belly Farm to create unique and wild garden style designs for weddings and events. She also makes wreathes and textural installations with the flowers they dry in Full Belly Farms’ Wreath Room and incorporates dried flowers into her other designs along with fresh flowers. \nOver the last decade\, she has helped to pioneer the Field-To-Vase movement in Northern California\, reminding supporters of local organic farming to not only eat local produce but to enjoy locally grown flowers as well.  \nHannah is the author of ‘Designing with Dried Flowers’ and has been featured in Sunset magazine in June 2024. SUMMARY:Meeting & Speaker: Jana Johnson
DESCRIPTION:Join us at our General Meeting on December 12th to hear Jana Johnson speak on her work on the conservation of the Palos Verdes Blue butterfly. \nJana Johnson is a tenured professor at Moorpark College and holds adjunct positions with SMC & UCLA. Her lab at Moorpark College is a grad lab in a community college setting and known as the Endangered Butterfly Project. Her research is endangered lepidoptera and it is her absolute joy to release captive reared endangered butterflies to the wild multiple times each year from the efforts of her community college-based student lab. \nJana singled-handedly brought this delicate and beautiful butterfly back from the brink of extinction. The beautiful Palos Verdes Blue butterfly can be seen on the Matt Willey mural located at the Laguna Beach County Water District. When the Laguna Beach Garden Club commissioned the mural Matt felt strongly about including this incredible creature in his effort to bring to light the plight of the pollinators in his mural. \nJana received her B.A. in Biology from UT and briefly pursued a career in pharmaceutical research. She returned to school and received an M.S. in Biology from Texas State University and discovered her passion for Ecology. SUMMARY:Meeting & Speaker: Ashley Irene
DESCRIPTION:Join us at our General Meeting on March 13th where Ashley Irene will speak on the topic “The Art of Edible Potager.” \nAshley Irene is a member of the Garden Coach Society and a certified garden designer\, but her style is also inspired by her grandparents. Irene grew up on her grandparent’s farm in central Wisconsin and has always had a love of farming. She was a fashion design major\, giving her an eye for design\, that later came in handy in creating her own gardens. She later earned her MBA and served as a brand consultant until COVID hit when she began her company Heirloom Potager. Irene’s showcase kitchen garden situated in front of her 1920’s French Tudor home in Floral Park in Santa Ana that she shares with her husband Nathan\, has inspired many neighbors to reach out to her about starting their own gardens. \nPotager\, a French word for home kitchen garden\, is where the inspiration for Ashley’s company came from\, it was the springboard for her company\, Heirloom Potager. Her client list runs the gamut from award winning chef’s and mixologists\, to the most discerning developers\, curators and homeowners\, her company creates timeless edible gardens and landscapes in Southern California and beyond. Her work has been featured in Orange Coast at Home\, Orange County Business Journal\, Riviera Magazine\, and the Orange County Register. Non-members are invited to attend for free on their first visit. \nPlease\, no parking in the Church parking lot. Plenty of street parking is available. \nQuestions? We’d love to hear from you!\n\n \n EmailThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name*\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email*\n \n PhoneI am interested in:\n \n Sponsorship\n \n \n Membership\n \n \n Volunteering\n \n \n Speaking opportunities\n \n \n Other\n Message*9+7=?*CAPTCHA
