SUMMARY:Meeting & Speaker: Tom Betts Aranda
DESCRIPTION:Horticulturalist and landscape designer Tom Betts Aranda will be our Laguna Beach Garden Club guest speaker on Friday\, October 8th.  The title of his presentation will be:  “Incorporating California Natives into Your Garden“. He will show how it is possible to have year-round color with minimal water and attention using plants suitable for our climate. \nTom grew up in New England before moving to Southern California at 22 years of age and has been gardening since he can remember. He began designing gardens all the while he was heavily involved with his passion for training and riding horses. While working as a dressage instructor\, he enhanced his education in landscape design by attending classes locally to better develop his knowledge and understanding of how to incorporate native plants into private gardens. He recently started his company called Nativo Landscape Design. He has since been active in designing native plant landscapes for homes in the La Jolla and South Orange County areas\, including his own small-scale patio gardens that provide sustenance for the local pollinator populations. \nTom’s Personal Philosophy: Whether large or small\, a garden can be a sanctuary for people as well as for local wildlife. I like to help homeowners find just the right plants for their environment that enhances their total well-being. \n  \n  \nUntil further notice we will be observing the following COVID-19 mitigation measures:  Masks will be required inside Tankersley Hall and seating will be socially distanced. Refreshment goodies will be individually wrapped to be eaten outside or enjoyed at home. Please bring any liquid beverages from home and plan on enjoying them outside. Please – no eating or drinking inside our meeting space. \nQuestions? We’d love to hear from you!\n\n \n LinkedInThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name*\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email*\n \n PhoneMessage*13+6=?*CAPTCHA

SUMMARY:Patriots’ Day Parade
DESCRIPTION:Calling all members! Come have a great time marching in the City’s annual Patriots’ Day Parade. Our garden club has participated for over 40 years and won many awards\, including three 1st Place trophies.   You can carry our banners or signs\, dance with our “Rakettes” drill team\,  hand out Gate & Garden Tour postcards or simply march. \nHave fun\, support the community and help raise awareness of our club and what we do. It’s a wonderful event with 80+ groups marching; half the city is in the parade and the other half is watching! Remember\, marching with our club is camaraderie\, fun\, and all downhill! Check your calendars and sign up at the February meeting. \nWe will assemble at 10 am in the parking lot opposite Laguna Beach High School\, 625 Park Ave. Please be prompt\, the parade starts at 11 am\, the downhill route is one mile through downtown Laguna Beach\, and we will finish at about 1 pm. We suggest wearing comfy shoes\, blue jeans\, white top\, Garden Club apron\, and decorated hat with flowers. Bring water\, sunblock\, tissue\, phone if desired\, lipstick with color\, sun glasses. \nPark in a neighborhood to avoid meters. The parade ends at city hall. \nIf you’d like to march with us\, please contact Diane Kloke (kloke@cox.net) . It’s a memorable experience and enjoyable time! \nQuestions? We’d love to hear from you!\n\n \n X/TwitterThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Name*\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email*\n \n PhoneI am interested in:\n \n Sponsorship\n \n \n Membership\n \n \n Volunteering\n \n \n Speaking opportunities\n \n \n Other\n Message*9+7=?*CAPTCHA

This involved ascending to the heights of the tallest trees to perform pruning and maintenance. He transitioned into the role of tree risk and health assessor while working on the U.S. Capitol Grounds for the Architect of the Capitol in Washington D.C. as well as for the City of Alexandria\, Virginia. Currently he is the City Arborist for the City of Laguna Beach where he manages all aspects of the City’s urban forestry program. \n  \nUntil further notice we will be observing the following COVID-19 mitigation measures:  Masks will be required inside Tankersley Hall and seating will be socially distanced. Refreshment goodies will be individually wrapped to be eaten outside or enjoyed at home. Please bring any liquid beverages from home and plan on enjoying them outside. Please – no eating or drinking inside our meeting space. \nQuestions? SUMMARY:Open Gardens Happy Hour
DESCRIPTION:Members\, please join us at the Open Gardens Happy Hour on Friday\, March 25 from 1-3 pm in Laguna Niguel. \nCathy Bosko has graciously opened her garden to us. Light snacks and refreshments will be served. \nCathy writes: in 2019\, after living in our Laguna home for almost 25 years\, we decided sell and rent for a year in Hilton Head Island\, South Carolina. We had a wonderful adventure and enjoyed our time there and loved the Southern hospitality. In the beginning of 2020\, we saw a home listed on Zillow in Laguna Niguel that was just what we had been looking for; so we put in an offer and deposit sight unseen and moved back. It was quite the fixer but because of the pandemic we were unable to remodel as we planned. The yard was a mess and had the original overgrown landscaping from when the house was built 30+ years ago. Everything in the yard was demolished except for the walkway and we started with a clean slate. Luckily we chose wisely and picked a great landscape company after interviewing many. Our yard was transformed into a water wise oasis. We absolutely love looking at it and enjoy our fabulous view. \nOpen Gardens Happy Hour is a good way to meet new members\, discover new ideas for your garden. Participating gardens do not need to be a showpiece and/or perfect. Every garden is unique and has a story to tell\, and we are most appreciative to all who that have volunteered their gardens. \nFor further information and/or to volunteer your garden\, please contact Shelby Rigg. \nQuestions? We’d love to hear from you!
