SUMMARY:Meeting & Speaker: Tom Betts Aranda
DESCRIPTION:Horticulturalist and landscape designer Tom Betts Aranda will be our Laguna Beach Garden Club guest speaker on Friday\, October 8th.  The title of his presentation will be:  “Incorporating California Natives into Your Garden“. He will show how it is possible to have year-round color with minimal water and attention using plants suitable for our climate. \nTom grew up in New England before moving to Southern California at 22 years of age and has been gardening since he can remember. He began designing gardens all the while he was heavily involved with his passion for training and riding horses. While working as a dressage instructor\, he enhanced his education in landscape design by attending classes locally to better develop his knowledge and understanding of how to incorporate native plants into private gardens. He recently started his company called Nativo Landscape Design. He has since been active in designing native plant landscapes for homes in the La Jolla and South Orange County areas\, including his own small-scale patio gardens that provide sustenance for the local pollinator populations. \nTom’s Personal Philosophy: Whether large or small\, a garden can be a sanctuary for people as well as for local wildlife. I like to help homeowners find just the right plants for their environment that enhances their total well-being. \n  \n  \nUntil further notice we will be observing the following COVID-19 mitigation measures:  Masks will be required inside Tankersley Hall and seating will be socially distanced. Refreshment goodies will be individually wrapped to be eaten outside or enjoyed at home. Please bring any liquid beverages from home and plan on enjoying them outside. SUMMARY:Meeting & Speaker: Linda Larson
DESCRIPTION:Our November general meeting speaker Linda Larson\, The Traveling Gardener\, will give a talk titled\, “The Best View of our World is Through a Garden.” Gardens large and small\, provide destinations all around the globe\, and exploring the world through gardens is a captivating way to travel. For every garden there is the story of the gardener who planted the seeds and arranged the ground. There are the homes they built\, revealing the social structure of the time and the power & struggle required to make a garden. \nWeaving stories from her personal travel to over 900 gardens in 35 countries\, Linda has created a visual adventure that will inspire you to venture down garden paths of the world. Exploring the world\, one garden at a time\, Linda will illustrate nature’s beauty along with the architecture of each garden. \nLinda is an advocate for the importance of public green space and the value of nature in our lives. A lifelong lover of flowers\, Master Gardener\, Faculty Emeritus of Mesa College and gardener in Mesa\, AZ for over 30 years\, she writes a monthly “Traveling Gardener” column for the Maricopa County Master Gardener newsletter\, Roots & Shoots and AFGC State Newsletter\, Greenleaf.
