DESCRIPTION:Join us at our General Meeting on January 9th where Ari Novy will be our speaker. Novy’s career spans from an estate gardener in Italy\, sustainable gardening in the Philippines\, Executive Director of the US Botanic Garden\, and President & CEO of the San Diego Botanical Garden. \nDr. Novy is a plant biologist with a wide range of expertise in plant science and education. He started his career in student support services with New York University. Dr. Novy completed his graduate work at Rutgers University in New Jersey\, where he conducted research on plant population genetics\, invasive species\, plant conservation\, horticultural improvement\, agronomic risk assessment\, beekeeping management\, plant evolution and agricultural economics and policy. \nDr. Novy remains an active researcher\, holding an appointment as Adjunct Associate Professor at Salk Institute for Biological Studies. He is the founding co-chair of the Food & Agriculture Professional Section of the American Public Gardens Association. He has served on task forces and advisory panels for diverse groups including the White House Council on Environmental Quality. He is immensely proud of having been a science advisor for the most recent seasons of The Magic School Bus. \nJoin us from 9:30-10:00 a.m. for social time and refreshments\, the meeting begins promptly at 10:00 a.m. Meetings are held at Laguna Presbyterian Church in Tankersley Hall located at 415 Forest Avenue\, Laguna Beach\, Ca. Non-members are invited to attend for free on their first visit. \nPlease\, no parking in the Church parking lot. Plenty of street parking is available. \nQuestions? DESCRIPTION:Named ‘One to Watch’ by Architectural Digest\, Saita Jaccard explains how she views every landscape design project as an existing story she continues to tell – asking herself\, “What do I want to add to this story?” \nJoin us for an inspiring presentation and workshop as we discover how thoughtful\, climate-appropriate and sustainable landscapes enrich our environment and help us thrive. Some of Jaccard’s interests include California native species\, local materials and gray-water irrigation systems. Collaborating with artists to bring the mark of the human hand into nature is one more element in her box of design tools. \nThis event is is presented in collaboration with Laguna Art Museum’s Art +Nature initiative.
