Our fabulous featured speaker for the new club year was Chris Epting, who presented, The Camping Trip that Changed America, based on his best-seller, Teddy Roosevelt in California. For the 100 members and guests in attendance, Chris delved into the fascinating story of the formation of Yosemite National Park and the National Park System. It all began when two men, who had never met before, ventured on a three-day camping trip in Yosemite: President Roosevelt and author/conservationist John Muir. The rest was history! Afterwards, Chris fielded many questions from the audience and sold and signed his books, including Vanishing America: Orange County and Then & Now: Orange County.
Prior to Chris’ presentation, Nancy Englund kicked off the business portion of the meeting with her President’s Message and recommitted the club to the theme, Celebrating Art & Science in the Garden. There were complimentary breakfast foods for all, and everyone had a chance to reconnect with friends, meet new people and shop for plants, garden décor, club apparel and other branded items. It was an informative and entertaining morning for all!
