Tales of Trips & Tours by Patty Gaffney … A visit to the Huntington Library and Botanical Gardens!
On the first official day of spring, twenty members toured The Huntington Library, Art Museum and Botanical Gardens in San Marino. A warm welcome to Bonnie and Pat, our brand new members who joined our T&T!
With more than a dozen principal gardens covering 130 acres of the 207-acre grounds, highlights included the exquisite architecture in the Chinese Garden, the iconic Japanese Garden with peeking wisteria, the Desert Garden architectural in a different way and the charm and color of the Shakespeare Garden. While the Rose Garden was still in its pruned state, camellias were in abundant bloom, and the petal-snow from cherry blossoms swirled in the spring breeze.
The Conservatory featured orchids as part of the Rain Forest and Cloud Forest along with the infamous Corpse Flower (Amorphophallus titanum) still in tight bud formation. And finally, the art galleries with the portrait paintings, sculptures and decorative arts were as thrilling as the themed gardens. And all of it along with the camaraderie made for an excellent day, traffic on the drive home notwithstanding.
