Savor the Seasons in Your Garden
So many delightful things have happened with our Club this past month it’s hard to pick just one! So I’ve picked two. The Good of the Hive® Mural Kickoff. What a delightful night for our Club! Over 200 attendees came to hear Matt Willey, our muralist. His message: “Bees never forget that they are part of something bigger than themselves… their hive is a part of them. What if we embodied this idea? What if we got curious about the world and each other again instead of intimidated by it? This is why I turn walls into windows – to remember that we are all connected… that separation is an illusion.” -Artist, Matt Willey
The celebration of our Club’s ‘Love Letter to Laguna’ and the energy we all felt that night embodies Matt’s message. Our Club’s mission gives us a sense of purpose and being part of our Garden Club Hive keeps us connected. There is no better way to spark conversation, challenge perceptions and inspire collective action for positive change than through public art. And no better place to do it than right here in our very own art town, Laguna Beach!
With the Laguna Beach County Water District as our partner and venue for our Gate & Garden Tour, on just one day a year alone hundreds of people from all over Southern California will see our mural and take inspiration from it. Facebook & Instagram & TikTok our fabulous Good of the Hive® mural. How about engagement photos? And Prom photos? Graduation photos? Holiday card photos? Share the BUZZ!
Mark your calendars and bring your friends, neighbors and family to our ribbon cutting ceremony at the wall on March 11, 3PM. The two finalist songs will be performed by members of LagunaTunes and the winning song will be chosen via applause.
As a Club we have supported the kitchen garden at Glennwood House here in Laguna with our very own Master Gardener Monica Thompson as their garden manager. The Glennwood programs promote increased self- esteem and assist adults with developmental and/or intellectual disabilities in developing the daily living skills necessary to live independently and live, work, and play in their local communities. We invited residents of Glennwood to attend our Valentine Open House and Plant sale and they were delightful! They helped with set-up, enjoyed the program, bought raffle tickets and even won a prize. They enjoyed being part of our hive for the morning and felt all the love you showered upon them. Residents Carter, Lily, Eleanor, Baneh, Tina, Nicole, Joe, Daniel and ‘good Daniel’, Drew, Andrew, Katie, Diana, Meghan, Ben, Brock – and staff Patty, Dana, Jeanne are a wonderful part of our Laguna Beach Hive. I have delighted in spending time with them these past few months volunteering at Doheny Beach, revitalizing the butterfly garden, and on beach clean-up day. If you want to join us send me an email! I guarantee it will be delightful.
Continue to look for delights every day – in your garden, the smiles of passers-by, birdsong, the voices of children skipping on the stones at your Good of the Hive® mural on Third Street. Delights are all around you to share and enjoy.
