Savor the Seasons in Your Garden
Seeing everyone at the Valentine’s Day Plant and Planter Sale, Open House, and Boutique was lovely. I hope everyone enjoyed the event and took home something fun. For me, it was an air plant tree house and the lively memories of talking with so many of you.
The first day of Spring will be March 20th! Early Spring is a wonderful time to plant vegetables, refresh the soil in pots, and mulch garden beds.
I look forward to planting new plants in my salsa garden. One of the classic herbs I enjoy for my homemade salsa is cilantro. I prefer to keep it simple by blending two cans of Italian stewed tomatoes, cilantro, and Serrano peppers. Cilantro is also excellent in soups. I usually add a few stems to my vegetable soup during the last few minutes of simmering, which adds a nice, refreshing touch.
I hope to see you at the City of Laguna Beach Arbor Day Celebration on March 6th from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Aliso Beach Park. The event will feature native tree planting, activities for kids and grandkids, plant giveaways, live music, and more!
March 8 is another important date: the Patriot’s Day Parade through downtown Laguna Beach, featuring the world- famous LBGC “Rakettes.” Please come and be part of the fun!
Lastly, Nelson Coates, a production designer and Laguna Beach resident will be our speaker on March 14th. He will discuss the impact of plants and gardens on film.
Thank you for reading! I hope everyone enjoys our upcoming series of events.
