Thankful and Grateful

The end of the year is approaching and with it Thanksgiving and all the winter holidays: Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa. We are very fortunate to be able to live in Southern California and now is the time to think of those less fortunate. Many, many people are struggling this year between inflation and astronomical gas prices. In November the Garden Club does a food drive for the Laguna Food Pantry and also start collecting unwrapped toys for the Fire Department’s charity: Spark of Love.

For the November food drive, dried foods, canned goods and produce are welcomed: please bring what you can to the meeting, and similarly for new unwrapped toys in December. Thank you all in advance!

November is also a wonderful time to plant. It allows new plantings to develop deep roots, provided we get enough rain. Unfortunately a third La Niña is forecast, worsening our already catastrophic mega drought. For those of us living in Laguna, the city has already sent out the winter watering schedule, so plant wisely!
