On March 24, 2009, the Laguna Beach City Council unanimously approved the development of a Sister City Garden in Heisler Park on Cliff Drive just north of Jasmine Street. The project was put on hold until February 2014, when Laguna Beach Garden Club, Laguna Beach Sister Cities and Ruben Flores of Laguna Nursery and Laguna Beach Beautification Council along with the City of Laguna Beach, collaborated to ensure that the garden would become a reality.
Under the direction and guidance and creativity of Ruben Flores, on November 17, 2014, we began to plant the garden. Many members of the Laguna Beach Garden Club alongside Sister City members, dug holes and planted species of plants representing Laguna’s sister cities: Menton France, San Jose Del Cabo, and Saint Ives England. After a few other plantings and the installation of the stones that separate and identify each of the gardens, Laguna’s mayor, Bob Whalen, dedicated the gardens on Wednesday, February 18, 2015.
Today, the Sister City Garden, whose three unique areas represent the individual regions of our three sister Cities are maintained by the Laguna Beach Garden Club, laguna Beach Beautification Council and Laguna Beach Sister Cities.
