Sharing Our Accomplishments & Talents
Dear Members,
Congratulations Club Members! As a club, our recovery from Covid seems near complete:
- We’ve been meeting in person for months.
- Last month, we had our first meeting without masks.
- In March our membership numbers once again reached 200.
- Our other events have 15 to 20 members attending as in the past.
- Also, the Gate & Garden Tour planning is well underway. More than 390 tickets have been sold so far.
- Lastly, in recent months we have given $10,000 to the Hortense Miller Garden and Library and $4000 in Laguna Beach High School Scholarships. We funded a Pollinator Garden in Heisler Park. At our April meeting you’ll learn about money we have pledged to El Morro Elementary, Top of the World Elementary and Thurston Middle School Gardens and to a new pollinator garden at Bluebird Park.
Your Board has been working tirelessly to keep our club viable and strong during this time and we are thrilled and happy to be in this place with all of you.
As you all know, we do many wonderful things together as a club and we do many great things for the town of Laguna Beach. My question for each of you at this busy time of year, is What have you done for the Garden Club lately? Here are just a few thoughts: Renew your membership, volunteer for the Gate and Garden Tour, become a Board Member, volunteer to be a Special Administrator, become Community Projects Chairperson donate a Raffle prize, donate money. Still not sure how to be involved, just ask me for ideas, or Lynn Jax or Susan Denton.
Tripp is loving life and especially his green ball. He is very reluctant to let it out of his mouth and it is too big for his mouth so the whole thing is hilarious. Tripp has been a regular visitor with us at a skilled nursing facility when we visit a friend. Staff and patients alike are in love with him. He lifts spirits.
My garden is happy, and my favorite plant right now looks very much like our club pelargonium. Here’s a photo for you to enjoy. I’ve been recycling organic waste here in Laguna Woods and it is going quite well. I hope that all of you who have the opportunity take advantage to help reduce methane gas in landfills.
Happy Spring and all my best. I look forward to seeing at our April 8 meeting.
