Vice President’s Message, April 2023

Spring has sprung, the rain has stopped (for now 😊 ) and the pollinators are pollinating! How do I know the pollinators are active? I see them and hear them buzzing around my garden and had a personal encounter with one.

President’s Message, March 2023

Well, shiver my briskets but it is cold and soggy out there! Last week I planted and pruned, and this weekend I was going to fertilize my fruit trees except that Mother Nature clearly wants to keep me in my comfy armchair, reading! By the end of next week I will doubtless have a fine crop of weeds to deal with. However, weeding is one of my favorite garden tasks, so bring them on.

Jan 2023 Green Thumb, Planting Shells and Drilling Holes

On January 20th, seven Garden Club members participated in a Green Thumb workshop that took place in Jeanne Yale’s garage and was led by Nancy Englund. Participants created mermaid themed container gardens and also had the opportunity to drill holes in pots and other creative containers.

It is February again. The most important date is not Valentine’s day on the 14th, but Friday the 10th when we have our yearly Plant and Planter Sale! It is open to the general public so members, hear my call and show us how creative you can be with things that will become containers for beautiful plants.

I hope you all had as wonderful a Thanksgiving week as I did. On Monday, November 21, John Loomis and I were married! Thanksgiving itself was a delight: it is our favorite holiday because it is just about family being together and being grateful for one another.

The end of the year is approaching and with it Thanksgiving and all the winter holidays: Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa. We are very fortunate to be able to live in Southern California and now is the time to think of those less fortunate.

It is hard to believe that we are already in October. I find that the older I get, the faster time seems to pass by. Be that as it may, we are approaching two things: Southern California planting season and the peak of fire year.
